We already knew that GPUs would have low stock this holiday. We knew since earlier this year. It happens every time there are multiple major hardware releases. With the Xbox Series X/S and Playstation 5, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070, 3080, and 3090 (and possibly 3060 Ti), and AMD Radeon 6000 series all releasing with a month? There just isn’t enough physical¬†stuff to manufacture it all. Especially with multiple major phone releases to boot.

So it’s no surprise that during a recent conference call NVIDIA CFO Colette Kress stated that Ampere will be hard to find for at least a few more months. Which isn’t surprising; the company has already apologized twice for limited inventory and sold out in seconds. Even the RTX 3060 Ti seems crazy.

“While we had anticipated strong demand, it exceeded even our bullish expectations,” said Colette Kress, Chief Financial Officer at Nvidia. “Given industry-wide capacity constraints and long cycle times, it may take a few more months for product availability to catch up with demand.”

Again, no surprises. The only question is how long will inventory be this low. Even AMD Radeon 6000 series GPUs are sold out. As soon as any current model graphics card becomes available it’s scooped up. That doesn’t mean AMD is your safest bet, but we all need serious luck to upgrade this holiday.
