Liquid cooling is the ideal means to keep demanding processors thermally in check and both Intel and AMD are preparing exactly the type of processors that could benefit most from liquid cooling. The Intel Core i9-10980XE CPU and the AMD 3rd Generation Ryzen Threadripper CPU are sizing each other up. This is a knockdown, drag-out brawl for high-core count supremacy. All the while, Asetek gets to show – yet again –just how vital liquid cooling can be and, in more ways, than you may think. For instance…

An image of Gigabyte’s upcoming motherboard for AMD third-generation Ryzen Threadripper was recently teased and it reveals one of the more subtle – and still meaningful – benefits of liquid cooling and that’s a reduced footprint around the socket. We all knew the new quad-channel memory was a given for the next generation of Threadripper-friendly motherboards, which employs four sets of DIMM slots on each side of the socket. But look at how little space there is between the DIMMs at either side.

AMD third-generation Ryzen Threadripper will require robust cooling that may severely challenge even the most capable air coolers. Air coolers rely on massive chunks of metal or heatsinks to properly dissipate heat. These sit right atop the CPU and can often obstruct access and/airflow of surrounding components, like fan headers and DIMM slots. That may not be possible, at least not easily on this upcoming platform from Gigabyte. Our patented cold plate and pump design are available in a variety of styles and sizes across our OEM partner offerings, with ample room around the socket to access your vital components.

Expect more from us on this topic, especially as we get our hands on the newest chips from both Intel and AMD to place underwater. We’re also cooking up a whole article detailing just why liquid cooling wipes the floor with air cooling in all the ways that matter to both performance-minded enthusiasts as well as casual builders and gamers who appreciate aesthetics and efficiency.

This year is going out in handsome fashion for PC builders and enthusiasts, with AMD and Intel unleashing some of the most sought-after high-speed processors to-date and Asetek is on deck to arm users with powerful cooling for both platforms.
